Ghouls. Ghosts. Vampires. Chocolate.

Halloween is a holiday that everyone – both young and old – can enjoy. Whether it’s dressing up or watching 3-year-old princes and princesses attempt to utter the words ‘trick or treat’, it’s truly a magical time of the year. However with so many kids out searching for candy, drivers need to pay close attention when behind the wheel. A few tips for motorists this Halloween:

Drive Slowly
While it seems like an obvious one, driving under the speed limit – especially in residential areas – is key to keeping everyone safe.

Do Not Pass
With many people dropping of trick or treaters, it’s imperative that you do not pass stopped vehicles.

Put the Phone on Hold
Distractions with electronics is a common occurrence – however on a night with so many children out and about, it’s best to put the phone away and keep the eyes on the road ahead.

Unpredictable Kids
It “should” be an automatic response: get to a street, look both ways. However kids on Hallows’ Eve are not thinking straight. Another house is in sight, and they’ll get there any way they can. Because of this, motorists should always watch out for kids darting across the street – and not just at crosswalks.

Communication is Key
Aside from using your headlights – both during the day and at night – alert other drivers and pedestrians of your intentions. Use turn signals and then hazard lights when picking up or dropping off.

So this Halloween, keep both hands on the wheel, all eyes on the road and most of all…have fun!
